Having serious lifting partners really helps out in your training. I stand firm in believing that having a training type of climate is just as important as programming, sets, reps, sweat, blood…you get it? I am lucky enough to have some of the most dedicated training partners around. How did this happen? Not sure, but it has evolved into a spectacular display of strength, brotherhood and power that has helped propel each of us to new levels. And there are still new levels to be reached. Training Climate, Yup!
Today’s benchpress session started out like this:
Warmups:
Barx10
95×5
135×3
135×3
185×3
225×2
275×1
Working Sets:
325×3 for 5 sets! I managed to hit every rep this week. One of our rules, NEVER MISS REPS! I happened to miss one rep last week, shame!
After main benchpressing, I worked on closegrip and really wide benching. For really wide benching, I place my index fingers just about 1-1.5 inches outside of the outer rings. Wow! I felt like this really opened up my chest!
Close Grip:
275×5
275×4 (going for 5! I missed a rep = shame)
265×4 (I backed off by 10lbs hoping to get 5)
Wide Grip Benching:
225×5 for 3 sets
Finishing up, I supersetted inverted bodyweight rows in the smith machine with close grip pushups:
Inverted Bodyweight Rows:
BW x 8 for 5 sets
Close Grip Pushups:
BW x 10 for 4 sets
BW + 10lb medicine ball on my back x 10 reps last set
Using a wide, simulated shirted grip is kinda tough getting used to. For now, the reps are a little more difficult, but I think this work will be an investment later, when it comes time for the shirt cycle.
Looking forward…
