After some consultation with one of my training partners, (mrodock) we decided to change it up a little and pull sumo style for USAPL Nationals. The idea here is I will hopefully be able to get about 50 more pounds from using a deadlift suit and pulling sumo. I started a new training plan tonight, sumo style! Here is how it went:
Warmups:
Airdyne bike 5 minutes
Resistance Band hip stretches x 10 each stretch
Floor stretches to open up my hips
Foam roll
Warmup Sets:
135×5
135×5
185×5
225×3
285×2
285×2
Working Sets:
I completed five sets of 330×5 (see video for set 1 and 2)
After my working sets, I chose two accessories to work on today. I chose Glute-ham raises for 5 sets of 5. Supersetted with 45lb plate situps for 5 sets of 10.
I’m feeling pretty good about pulling sumo style. Even Tim, a guy at Ford’s said “you look real good pulling sumo, I wonder why you didn’t pull like that before, it just looks more natural for you.”
So far, we’ve worked out a 13 week plan to get my sumo pull strong. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. Toward the end of the video, you’ll also see Ben and Josh. I am helping these two guys get ready for their first push-pull meet this year. These are two very strong guys, who have alot of potential in powerlifting.
